In his Divinely-inspired quest to reach the East by traveling west across the Atlantic, this renowned Italian explorer, navigator, and Viceroy and Governor of the Indies instead arrived in the Americas, the “New World” that was previously unknown to Europeans. The anticipation and drama surrounding Christopher Columbus’s first expedition westward was great. Columbus sailed for 33 continuous days across uncharted waters, facing growing unrest from his crew, who feared they would never return home. The pressure on Columbus was immense, and every decision he made proved vital to the survival of his small fleet and the success of his journey. On his historic voyage, Christopher Columbus changed course only twice. Many historians attribute Columbus’s course changes to luck, but as Spanish historian Bartolomé de las Casas wrote, “God gave this man the keys to the awesome seas.” On January 14, 1493, he wrote in his journal, “I have faith in Our Lord that He Who brought me here will lead me back in His pity and mercy... no one else was supportive of me except God, because He knew my heart.” One of our Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association members (all vegans), Zilu, in the middle of Quan Yin meditation, suddenly saw that our Most Beloved Master was Christopher Columbus! In my Quan Yin meditation, I suddenly saw that Master was Columbus! I saw Him having an audience with the Queen. I saw Him climbing up the tall mast sometimes and gazing into the distance. I also saw Him vomit sometimes due to seasickness because of strong winds and huge waves. “In my inner vision, I saw that one day, a seabird-person flew to the side of the ship in front of Him, walking back and forth. The seabird-individual was a God-sent messenger and told Him a lot about the American continent. Columbus could communicate with animal-people. He spoke bird-people’s language and asked the bird-person some questions. From then on, He respected seabird-folks even more. At times, He would see Heavenly Deities appear in the sky to guide Him… Therefore, Columbus had help from God. Had it not been God’s Will, it was not that easy to cross the Atlantic Ocean in those times. And now, we’ve come to learn that He Himself was actually an incarnation of God. When He first saw America, the new world was radiating light in His eyes. The experience He had was beyond this world. In other words, it was a place bestowed by God for people to inhabit. Before that, only American Aboriginals lived there, and God wanted more people to come to this new continent. So, the arrival of Columbus in the Americas was also God’s Will. People think that Columbus planned the sea voyages for the colonization of European royal families. But what I found out during Quan Yin meditation was that Columbus’s intent to find a new continent came from an implicit and compassionate thought hidden deep down in His heart. He wished that people would have wider visions and be able to get rid of the control of European royal families. He wished that people would have more freedom and a wider new world to live in. Deep down, His heart was filled with benevolent thinking for people and love for all creatures! At this time, in my inner vision, Columbus looked into the distance, but changed to what Master looks like now… And then, the inner Master walked out of His body, smiling and waving at me on the ship mast, and said, ‘My child, you finally see the scene which you should have seen a long time ago. You have to be more focused and look for my previous lives because it’s helpful for awakening people’s memories. Whoever was related to my past lives will get salvation.’ Then, the inner Master climbed down the mast and became One with Columbus again.”
