Here is a healthy eating tip for you. How mindful are you while you eat? Mindful eating is defined as using your senses to truly experience and enjoy the food you eat. Feeling grateful for your food may help improve your eating experience in general. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health suggest that you can eat mindfully by following these good practices: You can start by honoring the food by recognizing where it came from and who prepared it. Next, utilize all your senses by paying attention to the colors, sounds, and textures of the food. Try to take in the smells and tastes as well and be aware of your feelings while you’re eating. Third, to prevent wasting food and overeating, you can eat modest portions and eat slowly. Taking small bites, and chewing the food well and slowly may help you acknowledge when you’re approximately 80% full and feeling satisfied so you can stop eating. Another idea is to avoid skipping meals as this can cause you to feel hungry, making it more likely for you to grab the easiest and quickest option that may not be a healthy and nutritious one. As a final suggestion, you can also contemplate the long-term effects of consuming particular foods and fill your diet with more plant-based food, since this is better for your health and the planet.

My father is 86 this year. I visit him every week, cook vegan meals for him, and sometimes tell him the reasons for being vegan. In December 2022, I took him to get a physical examination at his work unit. His old colleagues all praised that he was in good shape. Wearing the Vegans R Heroes cap on his head, he replied loudly, “It’s because of the vegan diet. We have to go vegan!” I was very surprised to hear that, because usually when I talked to him about the benefits of veganism, he just kept silent, and listened without any response. After coming back home, he even told me that he often told his old friends the benefits of the vegan diet. He added that actually everyone knew the vegan diet is good for the body and mind, but a habit is difficult to change.

In January 2023, both my father and son were infected with COVID-19 one after the other. I moved to their places to take care of them day and night. Every day, I consulted doctors and tried various remedies, kept cleaning and disinfecting the environment constantly, and cooked vegan meals for them three times a day. However, I was very calm and had no complaint. I feel I have gained great purification during this process. At one point, my father’s condition was very serious. He suffered from coughing, asthma, dyspnea, and low oxygen saturation. The doctor suggested hospitalization, but the hospital was overcrowded and had no empty beds at all. Following the doctor’s advice, I bought an oxygen generator for Father to inhale oxygen at home. I made sure to keep him warm from the cold at all times.

He said to me, “You normally worship the Buddha devoutly. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will bless you.” I told him, “You can also pray to Master to bless you.” Gradually, my father got better and his condition became more stable. I know very well that it was compassionate Master’s Blessings that made him recover.

During this period, most of my colleagues, friends, and relatives around me were infected. It broke my heart to witness the suffering of my family members and other people struggling during the pandemic. I really want to shout out loud to them, “Wake up quickly and make a U-turn to adopt the vegan lifestyle, then all disasters and the pandemic will disappear in no time!” I sincerely pray that the people in the world will wake up quickly, follow the teachings of living enlightened Masters, treasure the Supreme Grace of God, and that World Vegan will be here soon!
