The global movement for animal-people rights is rapidly advancing on a scale never seen before. The European Union and nine countries in the world have included animal-people protections in their Constitutions. Eventually, Her Excellency Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico, signed reforms in animal-people protection law into Articles 3, 4, and 73, officially adding animal-people protection to Mexico’s Constitution.

In 2021, an impressive 1.4 million citizens signed the “End the Cage Age” petition, urging the phase-out of cages in animal-people raising industries. Sean Gifford (vegan), the managing director of The Humane League UK, shares his insights. “It is part of a vision of farming that the world really needs to start moving towards. Right now, it’s incredibly inefficient: Growing crops on recently deforested land in let’s say Brazil, to feed European animals on factory farms.”

Currently, 15 US states have passed legislation to ban various types of confinement. “A pet protection bill for animal caught in domestic violence situations was signed into law yesterday. Pennsylvania joins 37 other states in the US plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico and have these animal protection laws.”

On May 13, 2024, The Humane League, a global nonprofit dedicated to stopping the abuse of animal-people raised for food, proudly announced the launch of the Animal Policy Alliance (APA).

Moreover, the Animal Policy Alliance’s role in persuading the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to update child nutrition meal patterns and opposing the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act underscores its commitment to addressing animal-citizen welfare on multiple fronts.
