Analysis: Europe seems to be misunderstanding – or intentionally altering – US President Trump’s position on Ukraine. President Trump has signaled the US will either help make a swift peace with Russia, or remove itself from the conflict, as He told President Zelenskyy: “You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out.” European leaders, however, seem to either fear President Trump is aligning with Putin, or hope He will provide a major US security guarantee to Ukraine, even though the President has not taken any serious steps to align with Russia, and has ruled out a major US security agreement already. Instead, European countries including Ukraine should drop the US security guarantee, get America back on board, and find a realistic common demand for Russia that will leave Ukraine reasonably well defended long-term (Stephen Wertheim)
Analysis: Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy will have no choice but to back down and accept US President Trump’s strategic mineral partnership offered at their recent, disastrous White House meeting. The genius part is that President Trump’s deal would actually protect Ukraine without dragging the US into war. By involving American companies in Ukraine’s mining industry, President Trump would deter another Russian invasion, as such an attack would risk American lives and have massive international consequences.
