In previous episodes, we learned that the cornerstone of major spiritual faiths and philosophies of the world is benevolence towards all beings, including our animal co-inhabitants. The concept of animal rights, however, was not treated explicitly until respected English philosopher Henry Salt published his 1894 classic, "Animals' Rights - Considered in Relation to Social Progress," in which the erudite social reformer expressed his hope for an end to animal mistreatment.
