Master Guiguzi lived during a time of great upheaval, and His teachings shaped the strategies and philosophies of the era’s most influential political and military leaders. He could discern the great events of the world without ever leaving His mountain valley. His insights allowed Him to view the fractured states as if they were pieces on a grand chessboard and guide His disciples to navigate the turmoil with wisdom and strategy.

In the book “Records of Strange Stories,” Du Guangting writes: “Among Master Guiguzi’s more than a hundred disciples, only Su Qin and Zhang Yi were preoccupied with worldly desires and did not appreciate the Divine path. Instead, they immersed themselves in the art of diplomacy.” Taoist priest Zhao Daoyi states in his book: “Su Qin and Zhang Yi asked Master Guiguzi for guidance, to which He replied: ‘Hearing the Dao (Way) is easy, but learning the Dao is difficult. You two haven’t yet shed your worldly desires. You can start by mastering the art of persuasion to adapt to current circumstances. You will surely become chancellors of various states; however, you cannot prevent their eventual downfall. If you are not afraid of this reality, then I will pass on this knowledge to you.’ The two asked to study under Him, and after three years, they bid farewell. Master Guiguzi lived among humans for centuries, but after that, His whereabouts became a mystery.”

It is said that Master Guiguzi only descended the mountain once in His life, and that was to rescue His disciple, Sun Bin, a descendant of the renowned strategist Sun Tzu. The State of Qi, desperate for Sun Bin’s wisdom, sent for his Master – Guiguzi, revered as the Sage of Wisdom and a Master of strategic thinking.

In the chapter titled “The Method of Invoking the Five Dragons” from His book “The Seven Techniques of Yin Fu in Guiguzi’s Classic of Internal Medicine,” Master Guiguzi explains: “Tao is the origin of Heaven and Earth and serves as the unifying force behind all creation. It is the progenitor of everything, the source from which Heaven is born. Tao embraces all yet remains formless; Qi transformed and took shape before the emergence of Heaven and Earth. Its form is imperceptible, its name elusive, and it is revered as the Divine.”

“Pursue without effort, cultivate inner peace, keep your vital organs in harmony, and let your spirit remain unwavering. Only then can you turn inward to observe yourself, listen within, focus your will, contemplate the Universe’s vastness, and withdraw your attention (soul) within. As a result, you will witness the unfolding of the cosmos, understand the creation of all things, perceive the cycles of Yin and Yang, and grasp the fundamental principles of human affairs and governance. Without stepping outside, you can comprehend the world; without looking through a window, you can perceive the Way of Heaven. You can understand without seeing and achieve without striving. This is the wisdom of the Tao. By transcending all limitations, aligning with the Divine, and attuning to the rhythm of all existence, the soul ultimately returns to its source.”
