To keep berry shrubs from making a mess on the sidewalk, place a bedsheet on the ground beneath your mulberry tree or blueberry bush in your garden in the early morning ‒ this will function as a berry basket and catch the ripe fruits as they fall. In the late evening, gather up the sheets filled with berries and bring them indoors. You can also create a hammock by tying the corners of the sheet to the lowest branches or to four posts secured into the ground. It also minimizes insect infestation on fallen fruit, protecting their lives from passing foot traffic. A final suggestion is to ask some family or friends to hold the corners of the bedsheet while you take a broom, mop, or rake to gently shake the berries out of the tree.
