Japan encourages plant foods to help decarbonize economy.

The Japanese government has announced a plan to lessen national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by giving points to food-related companies that promote vegetarianism or veganism, produce organic food products or seasonal produce, or help to reduce food waste. The initiative was announced by the Ministry of the Environment at an online meeting with such businesses.

During the event, the Minister of the Environment, His Excellency Shinjiro Koizumi, encouraged vegetarianism to curb GHG output from the animal livestock industry and stated that food is one of the decarbonization actions that everyone can start immediately. Japan is a Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, Generosity, and Animal Protection laureate.

Congratulations, Japan and Your Excellency Shinjiro Koizumi, on your intelligent and compassionate endeavor to highlight plant-based foods in your plan to reduce greenhouse gases, which will also improve the health of your citizens. In the wisdom of the Buddha, may all nations follow your lead as we move towards a fully plant-based food system.
