Creating a Bright Future, Part 10 of 13

There’s another story about a very jealous Chinese woman, also very famous and a true story. So, there was an officer in the court of the King whose wife is famous, famous, famous for being very, very jealous and bitter. If her husband ever even looked at any other woman, the wife is really that jealous, because everybody talked about her and said to the King that she’s his number one, no exception. She’s very, very jealous of her husband, and the husband was like a victim to her, because he didn’t do anything but she was always very jealous and harassing him. So, the King wanted to help the guy to be free of this jealousy. Also, He wanted to really know if the woman was really that jealous. So, He invited her to the court, to the Royal court, He told her, “OK, I want to give your husband a second wife because he’s a good officer. He’s a big officer. He deserves it.” All the Chinese rich men or high-position men before had two wives, three, four wives.

That was the old times, not now. And then the King said, “I want to give your husband a second wife, and you have to accept it.” She said, “Never, over my dead body. I’d rather die than accept another woman in my house for my husband.” And the King said, “Really? You’d rather die than have to share your husband?” She said, “Yes, I’d rather die.” OK. And then He told His concubine to bring out a bowl, and He said, “This is poison. You take the second wife for your husband, or you drink the poison and die as you said it.” She drank immediately. (Wow!) (Yes?) Yes. But she didn’t die.

It was just vinegar. The King wanted to test her only. (Test her. I see.) So now, the Chinese people have a saying that if anybody is too jealous, they say, “Oh, she drinks vinegar.” (OK.) Vinegar drinker. A real story.

“The red Sun is setting, Flocks of sheep are going home. The little lambs follow their mother, some are white, some are black, and some are spotted. Have you had enough to eat? The sky is dark, the stars are bright, The little lambs follow their mother, don’t be afraid, don’t be afraid. I have lit the lamp for you.” Wow. OK. Everybody’s here already? (You sing very well.) Good. (Sing very well.)
