Antarctica’s Ellsworth Mountain Range and Mysterious Pyramid

The Ellsworth Mountains are a prominent mountain range situated in the western part of Antarctica. The region is divided by the Minnesota Glacier; thus, the northern section of Ellsworth Mountains is called the Sentinel Range, and the southern expanse, the Heritage Range. The Ellsworth Mountains tundra ecoregion is comprised of the mountainous and barren region south of the Antarctica Peninsula, about 1,800 meters above mean sea level. It is the highest of all the ecoregions in Antarctica. With an average temperature of -30 degrees Celsius, the mostly ice-free ground has exposed rocks and provides tiny habitats for non-microbial biodiversity to live and survive. Though many visitors come here to climb, the Ellsworth Mountains have plenty of other adventure tourism and activities to offer, such as the annual Antarctic Ice Marathon and the World Marathon Challenge, which have both started at Union Glacier.

In 2016, satellite images revealed an intriguing development: a peak within the Ellsworth Mountain Range that takes on the striking shape of a pyramid. In the 1930s, Nikola Tesla (vegetarian) explored the energy properties of pyramids. Mr. Tesla speculated that the pyramid was tapping into Earth’s magnetic field. And it makes sense that if there was some kind of worldwide pyramid power grid like this, that Antarctica would have pyramids as well.”
